Economics, government, politics, education, relationships, religion, race, general observations, and internal struggles fuel my work. Coming from an extensive figurative background, the exclusive use of the figure as a subject became insufficient as a means of expression. Through much experimentation, I have found that the layering of colors, textures, and text are the most appropriate solutions to effectively illustrate my anger and frustrations regarding the barrages of absurdities and contradictions within and around me. The physicality of the art process is a way to combat these stressors to avoid being consumed by feelings of powerlessness.
Artists that have an influence on my work are Michelangelo, Egon Schiele, Emory Douglas, Robert Rauschenburg, Gustav Klimt, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Jasper Johns. Contemporary influences include painters Anna Boceck and Noemi Safir Dolev. The works of street artists Banksy and Poster Boy are very inspirational. A variety of comic book and graffiti styles are also influences in my work.
